The first event of the Vancouver and District's season was held at Granville Park and we not only hosted the President's Cup, we won it!
Juanita Tucker (skip), Sharon Cowie (vice), Alistair Black (second) & Alan Webster (lead) swept aside their opponents for 3 wins and a +25 shot differential to bring home the first hardware of the 2012 season. Ruth Powers was honoured on April 15th at the club's Semi-Annual General Meeting with a life membership. Ruth has been a member of Granville since 1986 and has contributed enormously to the club. She has been looking after member lockers for over 17 years. Well earned! Here Ruth accepts her award (and flowers) from club president, Juanita Tucker.

Josephine Lee undoubtedly did not have as good a tournament as she would have wished at the 2012 World Cup World Indoor Singles Champiosnships, but she enojyed some shining moments. Josie went down to Warilla, Australia, representing Canada as the 2011 National Indoor Singles. She finished with a record of 5-5, sixth in her section, but along the way she beat two of the best women bowlers in the world; New Zealand's Jo Edwards and Karen Murphy, recent inductee into the Bowls ...Read Full Post »

Granville's own Josephine Lee is getting ready to head down to Warilla, Australia to play in the World Cup. This event, which is the World Indoor Singles Championships, pits National Indoor Singles Champions from throughout the world. Granville already has one champion, Shirley Choy, who brought home gold in 2006. Can Josie make it 2?

Granville Park has capped off the year in style by bringing home the 2011 V&D Club of the Year Award. This annual award recognizes the club in Metro Vancouver which does the most to promote the sport of bowls to its members and supports the sport at the district and provincial level. This is the first time that Granville has won this award and it was probably all those new members who joined in July and August that put us over the top. The finals of the Provincial Indoor Singles was an all Granville match on the women's side.
Josephine Lee defeated club mate Rita Patterson in the final to take the gold.
Both have qualified for the Canadian Indoor Singles at the end of October.

This past Sunday, Granville Park held its Novice Single Championships and the winners are:
Novice Women's Champion: Nancy Rankel-Allen
Novice Men's Champion: Mark Conway
Who knows what heights these two will scale in the seasons to come!

The Nancy Malloy was a huge success this year, despite a sudden shower that tried to a damper on things in the afternoon. There was a full entry of 32 teams and the winners were a team from White Rock, skipped by former international, Marlene Cleutinx. Second went to Mary Ann Gillies' team from Stanley Park. Time to congratulate three of our own for their success on the greens.
Michael Leong and Peter Cheong had a great run in the V&D Men's Pairs. Playing on their home greens, Michael and Peter earned a spot on the semi-finals and went on to finish fourth in the tournament.
