Celebrating 100 Years in 2015!!

Dr. Murray Blair Mixed Triples

The Dr. Murray Blair Mixed triples, begun in 1975 to honour past president Dr. Murray Blair, is played on the last weekend before Labour Day.  Dr. Murray Blair started his bowls career at Granville Park in 1933 when he won the Novice Singles.  Hejoined the executive in 1958 and eventually became club president in 1960.  Dr. Murray Blair was born in 1891 in Truro, N.S. and served in World War I in the RCAMC at the rank of Captain.  He was a physician (graduating from McGill in 1917) who specialized in obstetrics and gynecology.  He became a staff member of the Vancouver General Hospital in 1929 and was made head of obstetrics and gynecology in 1942.   He received many honours during his life including the degree of Prince of Good Fellows (which he was awarded by the Vancouver Medical Association in 1950) and life membership in the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C.

For teams where no home club affiliation is given, either that information is lost or the members of the team came from different clubs (or both).  The Murray Blair is an open event which means that the members of the team do not have to all belong to the same club.
